MYLAH

On my way over to my cousin Davina’s, I was furious. I didn’t care how many times Kane hit my line. I wasn’t ready to talk to his ass. Why would he tell Ace that he was Blaze? He didn’t have to say anything. He could’ve just told him that Tez was just a stupid ass nigga and didn’t know shit. I was starting to think this was the way Kane really wanted things to be all along. Why else would he want that type of credit? His Blaze lie was just as bad as Rome wanting to tell everyone that he killed Blaze. Anything relating to the name Blaze was a touchy subject for me, and Kane wasn’t understanding where I was coming from.

What if Ace blabbed to someone that Blaze was Kane? What if the word got to the police? Then, those murders would be pinned on him. That was why I told him to not speak on Blaze and just let them know that he retired. That was all they needed to know. I believed Kane’s power was going to his fucking head and it was messing up his common sense.

I needed to get out of the house. I needed to go somewhere to clear my mind.

As soon as Davina opened her front door of her apartment, I said, “Girl, it's a shame I’m knocked up or else I’d ask you for a drink.”

She laughed and hugged me. “Come in. Look at you. The baby is growing good. You still on bed rest?” She put her hand on my belly and rubbed.

“Hell yeah, but I had to get out today. Oh, I see you got some new furniture,” I noted aloud. “You’re doing good with the new job promotion?”

“Yes. Thank you.” She led me into the living room. “I’m just glad you came by today on my day off. I don’t get to hangout anymore. Since Shay’s ass decided to shack up with Ace, I really don’t see that heffa.”

I laughed. “Ace was just at my house talking to my husband. Shay and Ace seem very happy though. Ace is a good look for her. Now she can leave everybody else’s man alone.”

“You ain’t eva lied. I just need to find me a man, shit,” she said.

I sat on her plush couch. “You got some water or lemonade or something?”

“I got some Kool-Aid.”

“Girl, you still drink Kool-Aid? That stuff is for the kids. You ain’t got any kids so I know you the one drinking that shit.”

“Look bitch, don’t come up in my place talking shit. You want some Kool-Aid or not?”

“Um, actually, yeah, give me some of that. Is it like Sharane House Party sweet?”

“Not that sweet.” She cracked up.

“What flavor?”

“Red,” she replied.

“Black people always gotta say red or blue instead of the flavor. Ain’t that the same as cherry or fruit punch?”

“Girl, it’s red. Damn, you on one today.”

I laughed. Davina walked out of the living room into her kitchen. Her place was small so I could see her from where I was sitting.
